BANTUU story:
Fun with the down bedding
It started with harmless playing in the house. It was a chilly fall night and BANTUU couldn't
go outside to the small pocket park where he usually played after dinner. Couldn't? Well, he certainly could but he
is picky and prefers to stay in the house once the temperature drops.
Yes, it was a habit: after having a full stomach he likes to play ... but not by himself
but instead with somebody from his pack (that's usually me).
So, because he didn't like the cold he went upstairs where he likes the carpet.
I should mention that downstairs is hardwood floor which is not good for racing.
The game starts when I show up upstairs - he gets down, starts barking and wants
me to run through the rooms! How silly is that... but at least I pretend ... and
run a little bit until he gets in full motion and runs through all rooms like crazy.
Running, jumping on sofas, beds, making 180 degree turns, and the whole sequence
starts again. I am always wondering how he mangages to get around the corners without
slamming into the walls, but he is good at it. I guess it's the agility that kept
the breed alive when charging lions?!
Ok, I mentioned the jumping on the bed. That's not all! He then grabs the bedding,
the pillows, or whatever he gets and shakes the stuff to death! Normally I immediately
pick up the beds and everything else and put it away so that he ends up with an
empty bed but that day I was too slow.
Bantuu is a happy dog again.
The death of a down bed
He was diving into the bed and was biting and shaking the 'enemy' like crazy...
and slowly the first feathers emerged from the bed. Quickly there were more and
within seconds I saw it snowing in the bedroom. That's not all. He liked the taste
of the feathers and the whole experience so good that he jumped more and more around on
the bed and literally pumped more down feathers into the air.
Well, yes, it was too
late for the bed and I didn't even take it away from him. Why bother? The bed was gone and I had an exercised dog!
That's the story. So, be careful and don't underestimate your dog: wild playing
is fun but can do some damage. By the way, I found feathers all over the room and
even the entire house for weeks after the event.
Consider adopting a dog instead of getting a puppy from a breeder. Although mostly not in their puppy age adopted adult dogs bring the same fun to the table.
